Privacy Policy
Terra (published as TerraGeo on the App Store and Google Play, and at terrageo.org) is a daily geography puzzle game. This policy explains what we collect when you play, why, and how to delete it. The short version: we collect only what your account needs to work. We show no ads, run no analytics or tracking, and never sell your data.
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To create your account, sign you in, send verification and password-reset codes, and reply if you contact us. |
| Username | Identifies you to friends and on leaderboards. It's visible to other players. |
| Password | Handled by Amazon Cognito, our sign-in provider. It's stored there in hashed form, and we never store it ourselves. |
| Game activity: results, guesses, streaks, XP and rank, quiz personal bests, leaderboard points | To save your progress across devices, show your stats and rank you on leaderboards. |
| Friends list | Lets you compare daily results with players you've added. |
We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, device identifiers, advertising IDs, payment information or analytics about how you use the app.
Some settings and progress, such as theme, units and study progress, are kept only on your device and never sent to us.
Who can see your data
- Other players can see your username, leaderboard points and rank. Friends you've added can also see your daily results. Your email is never shown to other players.
- Service providers. Terra runs on Amazon Web Services, which provides hosting, database, sign-in (Amazon Cognito) and email delivery. AWS processes data only on our behalf.
- Content delivery. Fonts (Google Fonts) and some map geometry are loaded from third-party CDNs. Like any website request, these providers receive your IP address, but they receive no account data from us.
- Private group relay (opt-in only). A small feature can post a player's daily World and State results to a private WhatsApp group. It's enabled only for players who have asked to join. For everyone else, nothing is ever sent to WhatsApp.
We don't sell or rent personal data, and we don't share it for advertising.
Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Data is stored in AWS with encryption at rest, and sign-in uses Amazon Cognito's Secure Remote Password protocol.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. In-progress game sessions expire automatically after 7 days. When you delete your account, your data is erased from our systems immediately.
Deleting your account
In the app or at terrageo.org, open Settings, tap your account at the top, choose Delete account and confirm with your password. This permanently erases your profile, scores, streaks, friends and leaderboard entries, then deletes your sign-in account.
Can't sign in? See terrageo.org/delete-account to request deletion by email.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR, UK GDPR and California law (CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict how it's processed. You can see and delete most of your data yourself in the app. For anything else, contact us and we'll respond within 30 days. We rely on performance of our contract with you (providing the game) as the legal basis for processing.
Children
Terra is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app.
